South Coast Beaches

South Coast Beaches
Small to medium waves - good dive sites, excellent wind and kite surfing conditions.
Carlisle Bay
Just minutes from Bridgetown, Carlisle Bay is a pretty crescent shaped bay with yachts at anchor offshore. On Bay Street, food and drinks, parking, beach umbrellas and chairs are available at the Boatyard, the Bayshore Complex, Lobster Alive next door, and Harbour Lights. Snorkeling is good here but it is wise to do so with a coloured marker to make you noticeable to watercraft which are numerous in this area. Hazell's Waterworld is a good place to buy gear. Distance swimming is ideal - pier to pier is approximately 1.2 km. Saturdays at 8am an informal group meets at the southern end of the bay.
Hastings and the South Coast Boardwalk
The South Coast boardwalk makes it possible to walk for a few miles from Accra Beach to Hastings. Bajans do so when it's coolest, around sunset and sunrise, for exercise or just for a simple outing. There are several small beaches and at low tide rock pools are formed. A number of excellent restaurants and shops sit along the way and within close proximity.
Accra (or Rockley) Beach
In the Rockley area on Highway 7, with an ample car park on the beach side of the street, Accra Beach is very popular - lots of people, lots of activity, lots to do and eat in close proximity. There is great swimming, boogie boarding and bodywatching, trees for shade, beach chairs and umbrellas for rent. Lifeguards are present and there are public facilities and showers available. Bus stops for routes going in either direction are right next to the beach and there is a small taxi stand. Hotels, shopping and supermarkets are nearby and beach stalls sell hot food, cold drinks, Barbadian made jewellery and souvenirs, and clothing.
Dover Beach
Dover and Sandy Beach are gorgeous expanses of beach with beautiful swimming almost bracketing St. Lawrence Gap and Bay. At Dover lounge chairs and umbrellas, as well as Hobie Cats and kayaks are available for rental at Charles Watersports.
Sandy (or Carib) Beach
You can rent beach chairs, umbrellas and even towels on Sandy Beach from 'Spock'. You can find him under the trees near Carib Beach Bar. Sandy Beach is ideal for families with children because it has a lagoon with shallow, calm water.
Miami (or Enterprise) Beach
A stone's throw from Oistins with direct access, a lovely beach with clear crystal water offers the best of two worlds, almost as if the West and South Coasts met in one place. At the western end, the sea is amazingly calm and shallow, with small waves - you can walk out for quite a ways from the shore especially at low tide. However on the other side, the water is choppy with larger waves. This beach is very popular on weekends and bank holidays with public facilities and shade for picnicking. You can take a cooler but a canteen there sells cold drinks and tasty Bajan food, as well.
Silver Sands, Silver Rock and Long Beach
An extensive white sand beach with supreme conditions for windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddle-boarding and wave riding. Waterman sports competitions and practitioners converge on these beaches annually, hosted by world-ranked local windsurfer Brian Talma and DeAction Beach Shop on Silver Rock beach. The beach shop provides lessons, and boards and equipment for sale or rental.
