Sunbury House is a superb example of a Barbadian sugar estate great house. The entire house is open for public viewing and while wandering through with a guide, one feels transported back to the bygone era of lavish sugar wealth in Barbados.
Sunbury House is best known as an ideal venue of functions of all sizes, especially weddings. They have weddings there from 5 to 500 people, enthusiastically and efficiently organized by Donna Simpson and her pleasant and hardworking team. For more information please see Dining and Private Functions below.
Built over 300 years ago, the historically listed building is furnished with exquisite Barbadian mahogany furniture and filled with collections of antique silver, china and old prints. The cellar houses the Caribbean's finest display of antique horse drawn carriages and a fascinating assembly of household items that many years ago were part of everyday life on a sugar plantation in Barbados.
Throughout the extensive grounds there are further examples of old carts, mule and oxen drawn equipment used as recently as the early 1900's, all under the shade of magnificent mahogany trees.
