Springvale Eco-Heritage Museum
Barbados
Springvale Eco-Heritage Museum is a small no frills project that is truly a labour of love. Upon his retirement, the owner of Springvale Plantation, Newlands Greenidge, decide to dedicate his time to capturing the many customs in the lives of Barbadians over the past by turning his childhood home into a small folk museum. With his wife Denise's help he created the many characters whose skills made everyday life pleasant in Barbados such as the laundress, the basket weaver, the potter and the coral stone builder and placed their figurines in context with the tools of their trade and their traditional products. Springvale is in a lush forested area of Barbados with a fresh water stream and Newlands has created a short walking trail for visitors to wander through the bamboo groves with tropical fruit trees and local vegetables under cultivation.
