In 2020, Sol Rally Barbados will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary of the first running of its International All-Stage Rally in 1990. It is the Caribbean's largest annual international motor sport event. Since its inception, it has played host to more than 350 drivers and co-drivers representing nearly 30 countries, including six from the wider Caribbean, with Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago providing the best support. The largest competitor base is the UK and Ireland, however, the event has attracted competitors from as far away as Australia, Canada, Japan, Kenya, South Africa and the United States, as well as Europe. A key player in the island’s sports-tourism product, this event contributes BB$4 million to the economy each year, much of it in valuable foreign exchange, and accounts for approximately 2,500 visitor nights at a time when the island's tourism calendar is traditionally quiet.
