Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament 2020

Barbados

Sunday 5 July
Barbados Cave Hill St. Michael

Since 1986, the Sir Garry Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament has given school boys the rare opportunity of playing in an international tournament. This Tournament takes place in Barbados annually in July for two weeks. It is a 40 overs duration tournament played under the rules governing 40 overs cricket.

The tournament attracts schools from most test playing cricket countries but with the bulk of schools coming from the UK. It is always a well subscribed tournament with as many as 24 teams taking part. When that number is reached, the teams are split into four leagues of six with semifinal, playoffs for minor places and then the final.

A festival game is played on the day after the final between the Caribbean teams and a combined side from the UK. The tournament has now been sanctioned by the West Indies Cricket Board and recently there is much more interest from overseas teams, especially South America and Africa. A masters coaching class is given by some of Barbados' and West Indies' cricket legends such as Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Wes Hall, Charlie Griffith, Seymour Nurse and Joel Garner.

To date this tournament has groomed the likes of retired West Indies Captain, Brian Lara, Darren Ganga, Roland Holder and several English and South African test match players.
