Oistins is an active fishing town and a hive of activity on weekend nights, especially Fridays, when the popular thing to do is go to the Fish Fry!
The food is the main attraction - excellent fish, including tuna, swordfish, marlin, mahi-mahi and flying fish, but also lobster, chicken and pork. All served in an informal setting close to the beach. Fish is grilled or fried and all cooked on the spot in front of you. The seating is rustic and plentiful in amongst the old timers playing dominoes.
There are also art and craft items on sale including pottery, leather craft, jewellery, ceramics, wood carvings, clothing and accessories, straw craft and original paintings and prints. Music is played from two sources and includes a mix of back-in-time, reggae, country and western and calypso, including the current Crop Over hits. You can dance if you wish or just watch. Some nights there is a live band. Food is usually available from 7pm but go early (around 5:45), and walk on the pier and perhaps see a great sunset. Collect your fish scraps from the vendors and feed the turtles!
This event is very popular with locals and visitors alike and the children will enjoy it too. Go before 8pm for food or be prepared possibly for long waits.
Admission is free and dress is casual.
