Celtic Festival

The Celtic Festival Barbados is a week long music and food festival in May featuring musicians and international chefs from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The festival celebrates a three hundred year old history of "celtic" connections with the West Indian island of Barbados and recognizes the role played by people of celtic extraction in the development of the region. Many descendants of the white indentured servants who were shipped to work on sugar plantations still live in Barbados. They were nicknamed "Redlegs" due to the effects of strong sun on the pale skin not covered by their kilts!

The festival not only appeals to Scots, the Irish and the Welsh, but to Canadians, French, and Spanish who also have a strong celtic connection.
